A Step Further - Dutch portrait of Ayaan Hirsi Ali

This is a wonderful Portrait of the dutch politician Ayaan Hirsi Ali, who if anyone embodies what might be termed "Islamic backfire" in Europe.
It is interesting to notice what an uproar it caused as she left the social-democrats and joined the liberal party. Many a left-wing "intellectual" had been fascinated by her beauty, history and clarity of thought. As she turned her back on the left-wing many people not least within the media were gobschmacked. They felt betrayed and couldn´t understand how she could do this to them.
This was in 2004, and if one should set a date as to when Europe changed direction, the day that an elected, black, circumsized, muslim apostate, immigrant, intellectual author fled the social-democrats, and forced by her own conscience joined the right-wingers might not be a bad bet.

In fact now that I think about it - After she joined the liberal party she was given an important award by the danish liberal party. And the man who made the speech in her honor at this event, was none other than Anders Fogh Rasmussen.
It was clear that he had been impressed by her books, and it does not take a Ph.d in history to figure out how important this must have been for his insistence on free speech during the motoon-crisis, where all the social-democrats wanted to submit.

In this way small events often gain major significance in the long nitty-gritty of history.

Highly recommended
