First cousin marriages, though legal in Britain, are a taboo - commonly seen as incest.

Dispatches reveals the tragic consequences of these relationships.
First cousin marriages cause hundreds of children to be born with terrible disabilities in Britain every year; one third of whom are so ill that they die before they are five years old.

The practice is most common in Britain's Pakistani community, in which more than 50% of people marry their first cousin, and in Bradford 75% of ethnic Pakistanis follow the tradition. It is also common in some Middle Eastern and East African communities here, and in the UK's Bangladeshi community, nearly a quarter of people marry their first cousins.

But the practice isn't uncommon in the white British community either: this documentary features a couple, first-cousins-once-removed, whose daughter died of a genetic disease.

The medical risks include infant mortality, birth defects, learning difficulties, blindness, hearing impairment and metabolic disorders. As adults, the offspring of these relationships also risk sporadic abortions or infertility.

Reporter Tazeen Ahmad meets affected families, including one with three children with serious degenerative genetic diseases. Tazeen's own grandparents were first cousins: five of their children died before the age of ten, and three of her uncles were deaf.

Dispatches questions why no major national publicity campaign warns of these health risks. At-risk couples in some areas are offered genetic counselling, with some being offered selection of embryos or terminations, but as only 40% of recessive disorders can be medically tested for, this is of limited use.

Even talking about the practice is controversial. And, although many British studies have established the risks, people still deny the dangers and extol the benefits of marrying within the family. But others within the community say the risks should be publicised.

Five adult siblings who can walk only on all fours have been found in Turkey, researchers say. These human quadrupeds may provide clues to how humans evolved to stand on two feet.
The three sisters and two brothers may offer insight into the way our apelike ancestors moved, according to scientists. Human ancestors are believed to have begun walking on two legs more than three million years ago.

Discovered in a remote area of southern Turkey last summer, the family of ethnic Kurds has sparked a scientific debate, which will be covered in a BBC television documentary that is set to air on March 17 in the United Kingdom. The family's exact location and last name have not been disclosed.

Born with a genetic brain abnormality, two of the sisters and one of the brothers are thought to have only walked on all fours their entire lives. The two other siblings can walk upright for short distances.

The siblings' parents are closely related and have had 19 children in all.

This bizarre case is not a hoax, according to experts who have studied the family.

The cause of the four-limbed locomotion, however, is a bone of contention among the researchers.

Uner Tan is a neurophysiologist—a doctor specializing in the functions of the brain, spinal cord, and nerves—at Cukurova University in Adana, Turkey.

He believes the siblings, who range in age from 18 to 34, are evolutionary throwbacks—a "missing link" to our forebears. (Related reading: "Was Darwin Wrong?")

Meanwhile German geneticists believe the siblings' genetic abnormality may have knocked out the gene responsible for bipedalism, or two-legged walking, in humans.

Another team of researchers, including British evolutionary psychologist Nicholas Humphrey, say the cause is twofold: the way the siblings were raised and brain damage resulting from the genetic defect.

MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) scans suggest the brothers and sisters have a form of cerebellar ataxia. The condition affects the brain's cerebellum, which is located at the top of the neck and is associated with balance and muscle coordination. In children cerebellar ataxia leads to difficulties in balancing and coordination.

Yet this ataxia in itself wouldn't explain why the siblings never found their feet, according to Humphrey, of the London School of Economics and Political Science.

"The documentary shows a boy with no cerebellum at all who is nonetheless walking and riding a bicycle," said Humphrey, who studied the family in Turkey.

"So having a damaged cerebellum doesn't explain why these kids ended up walking on all fours."

"The mother says all of her children, when they were infants, ran around on all fours before they learnt to walk," Humphrey added. "Not just ordinary crawling, either—these kids ran around like monkeys on their feet and hands."

Known as a bear crawl, this form of locomotion is not unknown in children. But because the brain-damaged brothers and sisters would have had problems standing up, "there's actually quite a good chance that they would make the best of a bad job and remain on all fours," Humphrey said.

If this had happened in a Western family, Humphrey said, "Everything would be done to persuade and cajole the children to stand upright."

But the siblings' father told Humphrey that he didn't regard the seeming handicap as something that needed to be corrected.

"He would have been very much more accepting and tolerant of these children, because he thought it was God's will that they should walk like that," Humphrey said.

Humphrey also dismisses any suggestion that the researchers and documentary makers have been victims of a hoax.

Hand Calluses

"This is for real," Humphrey said. "You only have to look at the calluses on the hands of the young man [Huseyin] to see he's been on his hands for a very long time."

The behavior could potentially reveal much about our own evolution, Humphrey says.

"Here we've got a living example of how it might be for a member of our species to walk on four legs," he said.

Most experts assume that the quadruped ancestors of humans walked in a similar way to apes such as gorillas and chimpanzees.

But the Turkish brothers and sisters walk on only their wrists or the heels of their hands, with their fingers held off the ground, the researchers say. This position appears to have saved their fingers from damage; the sisters, for instance, engage in both crochet and embroidery.

Chimps, our closest living relatives, use their whole hands and fingers for walking.

"Chimpanzees basically wreck their fingers by walking on them," Humphrey said.

The few fossil clues to how early-human ancestors moved are fragmentary and difficult to read, the evolutionary psychologist added.

"I think this new evidence, suggesting that [early-human ancestors] walked on their wrists, is much more plausible and interesting," Humphrey said.

The film sparked a lot of debate and was taken to court because the shiits felt their faith portrayed inaccurately. However I believe the reason why this film has been so hard to locate is due to the appearance of none other than Christoph Luxenberg, who gives an interview explaining his syro-aramaic reading of the Quran. The seeds of doubt sown by Luxenberg could proove instrumental in bringing down a muslim world, stonewalling criticisms developed in the west.
Because whereas the sinful life of muhammad, the oppression of women and general injustice of shariah etc make it obvious to westerners that this religion can´t be from God, this is not the case for muslims. And if the debate is only to be conducted on the theological level the muslim is right. The lord moves in mysterious ways, and nothing of this sort can disprove the central claim, that the Quran is the excact word of the creator of the universe as it was conveyed to his messenger.
But Luxenberg has been digging where it hurts the most. Qur'an litterally means the recitation - the recitation of the word of god. But Luxenberg shows, that the words currently recited cannot be the original ones, since many obscure passages makes more sense if you translate them back into syro-aramaic and look for typical errors which could occur in trasferring written aramaic into arabic. This means that the Quran was written down in another language than arabic to begin with. "Prime Minister Tony Blair recently described tolerance as 'what makes Britain Britain' but in this extensive investigation Dispatches reveals how a message of hatred and segregation is being spread throughout the UK and examines how it is influenced by the religious establishment of Saudi Arabia.

Dispatches has investigated a number of mosques run by high profile national organisations that claim to be dedicated to moderation and dialogue with other faiths. But an undercover reporter joined worshippers to find a message of religious bigotry and extremism being preached.

He captures chilling sermons in which Saudi-trained preachers proclaim the supremacy of Islam, preach hatred for non-Muslims and for Muslims who do not follow their extreme beliefs - and predict a coming jihad. "An army of Muslims will arise," announces one preacher. Another preacher said British Muslims must "dismantle" British democracy - they must "live like a state within a state" until they are "strong enough to take over."

The investigation reveals Saudi Arabian universities are recruiting young Western Muslims to train them in their extreme theology, then sending them back to the West to spread the word. And the Dispatches reporter discovers that British Muslims can ask for fatwas, religious rulings, direct from the top religious leader in Saudi Arabia, the Grand Mufti.

Saudi-trained preachers are also promoted in DVDs and books on sale at religious centres and sermons broadcast on websites. These publications and webcasts disseminate beliefs about women such as: "Allah has created the woman deficient, her intellect is incomplete", and girls: "By the age of 10 if she doesn't wear hijab, we hit her," and there's an extreme hostility towards homosexuals.

The investigation reveals that the influence of Saudi Arabian Islam, Wahabism, extends beyond the walls of some mosques to influential organisations that advise the British government on inter-community relations and prevention of terrorism.

The Dispatches reporter attends talks at mosques run by key organisations whose public faces are presented as moderate and mainstream - and finds preachers condemning the idea of integration into British society, condemning British democracy as un-Islamic and praising the Taliban for killing British soldiers.

Undercover Mosque features interviews with moderate British Muslim figures who are speaking out against the influence of Saudi Arabia's extreme brand of Islam, which is seeking to overturn Islamic traditions of diversity and peaceful co-existence: "We are losing our children to extremists," says Haras Rafiq of the Sufi Muslim Council. Dr Al Alawi of the Islamic Heritage Foundation also warns: "If this continues, you will have extremist mosques in every corner of the UK. You will not have moderate Muslims walking on our streets anymore."

Reporter Phil Rees, an expert on Islamist violence, explores the Koranic teachings that lie behind the concept of jihad and examines Muslim fury over Western foreign policy. He meets the clerics who justify and encourage attacks on British soil and analyses the government's response - to de-politicise Islam and to silence radical views.

Haras Rafiq, a government advisor on preventing extremism, tells Rees that between 15 and 20 per cent of British Muslims sympathise with Islamic militancy. To understand why there appears to be so much support for taking up arms, Rees examines the fundamental tenets of Islam that lie behind global jihad - such as 'Ummah' - a notion of Islamic brotherhood which encourages Muslims to act on behalf of one another - which can cause conflict with notions of patriotism. Former Guantanamo detainee, Moazzam Begg who travelled to Bosnia and Afghanistan to help fellow Muslims and took up arms, tells Rees that Ummah is more powerful than the bond of nationhood. "Faith identity is much stronger because it's based on a belief whereas the national identity is one that's based on geography and where you happen to be born."

Shahid Butt, who fought as a jihadist fighter in Bosnia describes the Ummah as an integral part of Islam, he says: "Telling Muslims to take the Ummah out is like asking me to cut my heart out of my body...Defending another Muslim is a compulsory act in Islam. You have to do it...if somebody came to my house and kicked the door down and tried to attack my family I'm gonna go in the kitchen and get the knife and I'm gonna defend them."

Another belief which is central to many Muslims living in the West is the 'Covenant of Security' which prevents Muslims from attacking their home nation if they are offered safety and freedom to pray. Rees visits an Islamic Centre in Luton where young men are taught to accept and honour the covenant. The teacher, Abdul Qadeer admits that persuading his congregation to reject more extremist interpretations is, "a fight for the minds."

In stark contrast, Rees meets an Islamic scholar who believes the British government has broken this covenant through its foreign policy in the Middle East so attacks can be theologically justified. His extreme views have seen him barred from Britain but he still communicates to his followers in Britain via the internet. Rees examines how the government is responding to these debates within British Islam. He discovers that the widely accepted cause of militancy is radical preaching - ignoring the grounds for violence cited by the London bombers - the West's foreign policy. The government's plans to combat extremism involve allocating millions of pounds to projects that nurture a non-violent, non-political Islam. But Rees discovers these projects have been met with suspicion by the Muslim community. Mufti Mohammed Zubair-Butt from the Institute of Islamic Jurisprudence in Bradford is critical of the new anti-extremist curriculum drawn up for schools in the city: "Is this a government initiative to make the Muslims pliant and just follow the government agenda and not question whatever they have to say?"

Rees concludes that government plans to tackle extremism which do not take into account the radicalising affect of its foreign policy and refuse to engage with its critics are unlikely to succeed - as long as aspects of Islam can be seen to justify violence when Muslims are under attack.

This film deals with the militant madrassas in Sudan often inhabited by the orphans of the jihad in southern Sudan, Darfur, Nigeria and Chad. Here, the men are usually enslaved or killed; the women, if not killed, are taken north and sold after enduring sadistic rapes. But the children are often kidnapped and deported to terrorist training camps, where they are brainwashed into adherence to the Islamic ideology and trained for military warfare against non-Muslims. When they finish their schooling they are sent back home or abroad to establish sleeper cells and spread the ideology of hate.

This strategy of child deportation and indoctrination has been documented in other wars on innocent non-Muslims and seems to be a jihadi tradition. At least, it carries the distinctive mark of the Islamic strategy: feed off the enemy while you fight him. Within this field Islamic teachings really are highly developed and innovative, applying hundreds and hundreds of often complicated schemes and rackets to bleed the dragon. In fact, "terror" seems to be one such scheme. The creativity behind these traditions of jihad, is so downright evil it boggles the mind, but when one understands the true implications of a doctrine of permanent war one realises a neccessity at work and begin to find these vicious systems of exploitation feeding off non-muslim societies time and time again. A kind of ancient jihad economics is in play, in which the kafirs figure as nothing but a natural resource.

The documentary contains original footage from these child terrorist camps which was sent to thousands of Muslims in the West to raise alms for jihad. In the video we are told that "these are the children the West fails to see, the children the West fears the most." "Each one of them has been trained with an AK-47 assault rifle and will do their duty to Allah and the Ummah when called upon to do so"

What this "duty" is, and how many of the "youths" of the West actually stayed in extremist madrassas before being welcomed as de facto refugees, asylum seekers, and immigrants we have yet to see. But human trafficking being yet another branch of jihad economics, one has to hope for the best but expect the worst.

This is an excellent documentary on the arab-african slavetrade produced by french ARTE dubbed in german and now at last, translated and subtitled into english. This documentary pierces through the whole web of lies and deceit surrounding black slavery. Spread throughout the free world by hostile communist and islamic ideologues. Contemplating the thousands of books dealing with the enslavement of africans is it not peculiar that only a handfull deals with the essential question - "who actually caught and enslaved the free black africans?".

Remarkable german documentary about the gradual radicalisation and moral deroute of Barino Barzoum. Son of a coptic christian father and german catholic mother.
It details how the Quran disguises seeds of hate and scorn as indisputable opinions of the creator of the universe. This mixture of ruthlessnes and worship has a very interesting albeit devastating influence on the believer. Making an otherwise intelligent person loose his natural capacity for making moral judgements.

I went through the trouble of translating and subtitling this one myself mainly because I consider it the most important german documentary about Islam. In the sequel which I hope I will be able to translate at a later time, Barino leaves Islam and joins the church of the coptic christians. And today he is one of the most dedicated and outspoken people in germany warning against the threat of radical Islam. I have this gut feeling that a day will come when everybody will know who Barino is, and thought it would be good to present this record of his years in the Abu Bakr Mosque to an international audience.

The following barbaric exodus of almost all hindus from Pakistan and Bangladesh far exceeds the arab-israeli conflict with regard to casualties, brutality and sheer injustice on the part of the perpetrators. Fundamentally, Islamic Pakistan could not indoctrinate and sponsor acts of "self determination" of Muslims in a secular India while ethnically cleansing Hindus and other non-Muslim minorities (to India) wherever it encounters them. It is true that Muslims too got ethnically cleansed from India, -- in particular from Punjab. But it was a one-time event that occurred during the partition. The fact that Muslims remain in India in large numbers is an indication of its limited scale.

Thus, the Kashmir issue, originated in 1947, is intimately linked to ethnic cleansing of non-Muslim minorities by Pakistan since 1947. Therefore, the Kashmir problem could not be discussed, without at the same time addressing ethnic cleansing of non-Muslim minorities in the Indian subcontinent. Clearly, Pakistan must be made accountable for these dastardly deeds.

When India was partitioned, an understanding had been reached between Indian and Pakistani leaders that minorities in their respective countries would not be forced out. But Pakistan violated this promise and ethnically cleansed almost all of its Hindu and Sikh population to India. These refugees had to leave behind their considerable properties virtually overnight for India.

In 1947, at the time of partition, the population figures were 330, 27 and 30 million people in India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh respectively. In terms of area, India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh constituted 1.3, 0.3 and 0.06 million square miles. Population percentages were 85%, 15% and land percentages were 75% and 25% for India and the united Pakistan (West and East Pakistan) respectively. Thus, India had to accommodate 85% of the population in 75% of the land. So, Pakistan got a much better land deal during the partition compared to India.

It is important to realize that the partitioning of India in 1947 was made on the basis of population levels in various regions. Thus, these acts of ethnic cleansing has created a land imbalance in Pakistan's favor that can only be corrected by transferring land from Pakistan to India.

Let us now study this issue of ethnic cleansing. In 1947, Hindus constituted over 20% in Pakistan and 36% in Bangladesh. Now, they are less than 1% in Pakistan and about 8% in Bangladesh, thanks to Pakistan. While in India, the Muslim population has risen from about 10% in 1947 to about 15% today. These facts clearly establish India as the aggrieved party in the hands of a criminal Pakistan.

It must be clear by now that any fair and appropriate approach to dealing with Pakistan has to involve demanding land from Pakistan. What should be demanded? Pakistan owes India at least 1/3 of its entire land-mass, as it drove away more than 20% of its Hindu and Sikh population from Pakistan and POK in 1947; also over 10% Hindus from Bangladesh in 1971. India should therefore demand at least half of Sind and half of Western Punjab (only real state, without human subjects).

As a penalty for the expensive Kargil intrusion and ethnic cleansing of Hindus in Indian Kashmir, and in POK, Pakistan should vacate and the line of control should be moved further north, with areas including the Mangala dam becoming part of India.

Do only Kashmiri Muslims have the right to "self-determination" and join Pakistan along with the land? What about the human rights of non-Muslims and their descendants who have been ethnically cleansed to India while losing their properties, including land?

There is a vital human rights issue at stake -- the right of non-Muslims in the Indian sub-continent to have a secular land, where they feel secure and eventually prosper. That land can only be India as every Muslim majority area in the sub-continent has become virtually non-Muslim free due to ethnic cleansing and discriminatory Islamic laws. These are legitimate survival issues for the Indians. Indians both internally and externally, should bring focused attention of these genocide actions by Pakistan that has become almost free of Hindus ad Sikhs.

In summary, it will be to India's strategic advantage to bring up the issue of minority ethnic cleansing by Pakistan. This should be brought up in any future talks with Pakistan. India should also formally file a complaint to the UN Security Council and the International Courts, portraying India as a victim of minority ethnic cleansing and demand the kind of "accountability measures" suggested here.

These ideas also form a basis for a legitimate military pressure and future operations leading to the annexation of Pakistan's land-mass. If India couldn't make Pakistan accountable for its ethnic cleansing through land annexation, the proxy war through the acts "self-determination" of Indian Muslims would escalate. It will destroy India's economy and put its long-term survival under jeopardy.

Apparently around thousand christian east timorese children were kidnapped by the muslims during the Horrifying massacres of the muslim indonesian Pro-integration militia (yes, that is what they call themselves!)in East Timor 1999.
"Mr Kessler said that because the UNHCR could not now work in West Timor, where 120,000 people in the camps are being held virtual hostage, Indonesian aid workers with access were being asked to try to track the families of the children. The UNHCR would also try to trace other parents who had returned to East Timor, Mr Kessler said.

Soni Qodri, a Jakarta-based humanitarian worker and investigator, told The Age that Indonesian non-government organisations believe up to 1000 children have been separated from their parents and brought from East and West Timor to various parts of Indonesia.

"We fear many of them are being mistreated, such as being forced to work in sweatshop factories, plantations and prostitution but evidence is difficult to obtain," he said."

India has obtained evidence that Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) directorate played a more significant role in the planning and execution of the November 2008 Mumbai attack than had previously been thought, according to Indian Home Secretary G. K. Pillai, Indian Express reported July 14. Pillai said information gathered from interrogations of David Headley, a U.S. citizen accused of helping plan the attack, indicated the ISI had planned the attack with Lashkar-e-Taiba militant Hafiz Saeed “from beginning to end.” He added that the ISI was not a peripheral player, but was controlling and coordinating the attack, and that Saeed also knew everything about the attack.

Dispatches investigates the spread of Islamic extremism throughout British prisons and asks if today's prisoners will become tomorrow's terrorists.

Reporter Amil Khan uncovers the radicalisation and recruitment of young prisoners to jihadist Islam. He hears from former prisoners who claim they were taught behind bars that Islam justifies crimes against non-Muslims. Khan hears how those prisoners, on release, are directed to mosques and contacts who further their extremist beliefs.

Former gang members tell Khan that when young prisoners return to the streets and a life of crime they do so with a renewed sense of justification from their new-found religious ideology, an ideology they then spread to their gang members.

Fitna is a 16 minute long film by Dutch politician Geert Wilders, leader of the Party for Freedom in the Dutch parliament. The name comes from the Arabic word fitna which is used to describe "disagreement and division among people", or a "test of faith in times of trial". The movie offers a critical view of Islam and the Koran. Interspersed with extremely violent verses of the Koran, it shows graphic views of terrorist violence, and also unexplained disturbing images of children with bloody heads (associated with some Shiite observances of the Day of Ashura), and images meant to conjure up concerns about female circumcision. No attempt is made to contextualize these issues, or suggest that there might be Muslims who are not in full support of these actions or verses of the Koran which might provide a different balance. Instead there are bar graphs showing the explosive growth of the Muslim population in the Netherlands and in Europe, and a clear insinuation that unless something is done to stop them, Muslims will soon take over and destroy the freedoms the Dutch people cherish. The final call in the movie is to "Stop Islamisation" and "Defend our freedoms."
